I’m going to miss you and this blog greatly. You have used it to support and encourage others, and I thank God for you.

I remember when you were on homeschoolblogger and you talked about creating this blog. When I initially saw it, I was in awe. I thought of all the time and effort to get it up and running.

Love your post! I also have a 12 year old who is very passionate about video games. He love star wars and roblox. I was skeptical at first but after reading reviews and actually watching what he was doing, I realized that he was learning a LOT of skills (wants to be a game designer) and using math and history at the same time. It’s a new technological world. My son and I have more conversations now about the games which actually seem to contribute to his homeschooling lessons. Who would have thought?

We have 6 children. Two on the spectrum. One is my 16 y.o. son, who is “passionate” about video games and I never “got ‘it” until just now. Thank you so much for reaching into my psyche and shaking out the cobwebs. Now maybe we can get back to that great relationship we used to have before I started blaming it on puberty and video games.

Sooo glad y’all got good things out of it! Sherrie, I know how you feel – a cable on our Wii just broke and I won’t get a chance to buy a new one until Friday… and I don’t know which one of us is more upset!! LOL!! The games are so much fun and we have had such great laughs and great memories from it.

I just wanted to say THANK YOU for taking time to write this. I have never thought of it that way and now my mind is definitely more peaceful about video games. Instead of trying to fight him over it, I should try more to join in. WE just got finished bowling on the WII and I have to say it was a blast. Thanks again!

This is a really great post and you made some good points. In our house we let our son watch T.V. after we do school. He has his favorite cartoons and even kid Christian programs he likes watching. Dad spends lots of time with him too because they have certain Sat. morning shows they like watching together. When my son gets bored with T.V. he will actually go pick up and book, build something with his K’nex, read a book, or doodle in his spiral notebook.

I don’t think trying to get the dad to stop watching T.V. is the best way to go especially if his is actually spending that time with the kids. Many moms wish their husbands would spend any time with the kids. As long as what they are watching is not inappropriate it’s better to appreciate how and when he does it rather than discourage him from doing it.

Hi Andrea,

We corresponded via email, oh, at least a couple of years ago. You had a site via homeschoolblogger.com called “Quail Haven Academy,” I believe. I’ve seen the name “Andrea” on a couple of other lists and wondered if it was you, because the writing style is the same. I, too, am a single parent homeschooler living in a big city.

I love your website and sometime next year when you are taking on new clients, I’d like you to help with mine–if I haven’t figured things out by then.
